Even with the bright lights of Vernal in the foreground, Uintah County has some of the best night skies around for stargazers. For those willing to venture out into less developed parts, like south Uintah County or Dinosaur National Monument, prepare to be starstruck by the stellar visibility (pun intended). On this particular day, strong winds kicked up the cloud of dust that you see hovering over the city. High above in the core of the Milky Way, one can see several popular deep sky objects such as the Eagle Nebula, Omega Nebula, and North America Nebula.

Disguised as merely a maze of oil & gas roads, the badlands of Uintah County offer some of the most unique and colorful landscapes one will ever see. As you wander along in places with names such as Fantasy Canyon and the Devil's Playground, you'll likely come across groupings of rock that appear to have been artistically placed by human hand.
