Disguised as merely a maze of oil & gas roads, the badlands of Uintah County offer some of the most unique and colorful landscapes one will ever see. As you wander along in places with names such as Fantasy Canyon and the Devil's Playground, you'll likely come across groupings of rock that appear to have been artistically placed by human hand.

While Summit County might have have claim to the famous Red Castle, Uintah County is home to the stunning Red Sand Castle. These bentonite badlands offer endless exploration for those willing to leave their vehicles behind and head out on foot.

Arguably the most recognizable landmark in Uintah County, Split Mountain is a massive formation of limestones and sandstones at the heart of Dinosaur National Monument. The majority of what you see here on its south face is Weber Sandstone.

Known for our dinosaur fossils and interesting geology, Uintah County is also home to some stunning and unique landscapes. Although our climate is fairly arid, we do get the occasional heavy snowfall down in the basin which adds a new level of contrast to our landscapes.
